Both was a three-wheeled electric automobile designed by inventor Edward Thomas Both and built by JA Lawton and Sons Ltd. in Adelaide, South Australia in the World War 2 era (1939-1945) when petrol rationing was in force.
Edward Both was named "the Edison of Australia" as he invented many things - including, in 1938, during the polio epidemic, the Both Respirator (a wooden version of an iron lung); portable electro-cardiograph; electric van; electric scooter; ultra-centrifuge; electro-encephalograph; colour grading of fruit; totalisator (for betting); Visitel (early version of a fax machine); Humox cots (early humidicrib); bandage roller; electro-micrometer; cloth cutter (capable of cutting 300 pieces of cloth at once); electronic score-boards (1952 Davis Cup; 1956 summer Olympics in Melbourne, Victoria)
