TD was designed by Ross Marshall of Marshall Motors, Sydney, New South Wales and the concept was a fiberglass kit car resembling the model TD made by MG. From 1984 until 1986 the car was developed with assistance from the Victorian government at Geelong. In 1986 Ross Marshall created the firm MGTD in Sydney, New South Wales. In 1987 it was sold to Westmex and marketed as Australian Classic Cars by Ross Shrives at Ararat, Victoria and had Nissan components. The Mark 2 model was in collaboration with Gasons of Ararat and in 1994 sold to Zaps of Melbourne, Victoria. In 1998, it was sold to Eddie Teo who created the (non-Australian company) TD Cars (Malaysia).
