This web-site presents the Ivan Hoffmann Collection of research materials about Australian Automobiles - clippings, brochures, diagrams, photos, articles etc., from early days until more recent. It qualifies as Australian if one or more components - body/engine/chassis were either prototype, designed, built, assembled, manufactured or made for use, only in Australia, (we also adopted a few New Zealand cars as Australian!). Guard is listed in South Australian Motor Cars 1881...1942 by George Brooks and Ivan Hoffmann as being built by AJ and JB Gard (Gard brothers) in Adelaide, South Australia, Gard did make Guard motor-cycles however according to 1909 The Cyclepaedia of South Australia, Gard supposably also made Guard motorcars.
